DC One Card:
The DC One Card is a consolidated credential designed to give students access to DC government facilities and programs, including public schools, recreation centers, libraries and the Metro. All DCPS students must obtain a new or replacement DC One Card from the ID Administrator at their school. Visit the Beers Main Office to request a card from the school’s ID Administrator.

The number on the card’s front side is the student’s permanent DCPS ID number. The number on the card’s back side near the bar code is the number which must be registered with Metro for transit benefits. If the student loses his/her card and receives a replacement card, the card must be re-registered because the number on the back will be different.
Kids Ride Free Card:
The School Transit Subsidy Program offers free or reduced fares for students who use Metrobus, the DC Circulator, or Metrorail to travel to and from school and school-related activities. Since it can take a week or more to receive a new or replacement DC One Card, be prepared to pay for Metro with cash or a SmartTrip card (available for purchase in Metro stations) in the interim. You can visit the school Welcome Center to request a Kids Ride Free Transit card.
School Lunch:
For the most up-to-date student meal information, see http://dcps.dc.gov/food or email mailto:[email protected].
  • Breakfast, is free for all DCPS students.
  • DCPS students who are classified as free or reduced, will receive a lunch at no charge to the student.
  • Students who are classified as paid or who have not filled out a Free And Reduced Meal (FARM) application must pay for lunch.

Student Meal Payment:
Students’ meal accounts function as debit accounts. When a student goes through the lunch line to receive a meal, the student gives the cafeteria manager his/her name or number. The cost of the meal is then deducted from the student’s meal account. If there are insufficient funds in the student’s meal account, the student still receives a meal and the student’s meal account will show a negative balance with the associated cost.

Students can pay for meals in two ways:
  • MySchoolBucks, will be replaced by a new meal payment solution, LINQ Connect as of October 10, 2023.
  • Existing MySchoolBucks account holders must register for a LINQ Connect account. To get the new account set up, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3:
  • Register: Create an account at https://linqconnect.com and select register. Have your student’s ID number available.
  • Verify Account: Click the email verification link sent to the provided email address to verify your account.
  • Sign In: Now, you can sign in at https://linqconnect.com using your email and password. Please note: You will need to add your student to your LINQ Connect account. Click on +, then type and complete the information to link your student. You will need to complete this process for each student you wish to add.
All student and adult staff meal account balances will automatically roll over to LINQConnect. However, to add funds or check balances after October 10, you must have a LINQConnect account. MySchoolBucks accounts will no longer be in use or available for those functions.

Thank you for partnering with us to make this switch seamless. Please note that students will never be refused a meal or served an alternate meal selection if there are no funds in the student account. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to get in touch with us at [email protected] or (202) 299-2159.
  • By sending a check or money order made payable to the DC Treasurer to the following address (include the student’s DC One Card ID#):  DCPS Office of Food and Nutrition Services 1200 First Street, NE, 9th Floor Washington, DC 20002
Inclement Weather:
DCPS makes decisions about school closures or delay. The fastest way to learn about decisions on school openings for Beers ES, is to check the DCPS website and Twitter page. If DCPS announces a two-hour delay, Beers ES doors will open at 10:40 AM and classes will begin at 11:00 AM. Classes will function on an adapted schedule from that point forward.
Student Cellphone and Electronic Device Policy:

June 6, 2025

The District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS) mission is to ensure that students reach their full potential through rigorous and joyful learning experiences provided in a nurturing environment. A critical step toward this mission is making sure that instructional time is focused on learning and that the school environment fosters opportunities for students to build healthy relationships with their teachers and peers.

To support these goals, beginning in the 2025-26 school year, DCPS students are prohibited from accessing a cell phone or personal electronic communication device during the bell-to-bell school day when on DCPS school grounds, except for the permitted uses described in the policy. If a cell phone or personal electronic communication device is brought to school, it must be turned off and stored during the bell-to-bell school day while on DCPS school grounds. Each school must establish a system for cell phone and personal electronic communication device storage during the bell-to-bell school day and implement it in a consistent manner for its students.

The policy outlines permitted device uses. For example, school staff can give permission for students to use personal devices for educational purposes and grant exceptions for students to use personal devices for extenuating circumstances (e.g., students who are parents of young children) and if required to manage a documented health need. The policy also establishes expectations for schools to share protocols for routine and emergency communication among students, families, and educators.

Attendance Policy:
Our goal is to have a daily on-time attendance rate of 100% and to have our students form good habits of punctual arrival and regular attendance. Beers follows the DCPS attendance policy, which explains excused and unexcused absences.

On-time and consistent attendance is necessary for all students to access and benefit from our school’s educational program. While assuring our students get the best of their elementary school education during the 180 days of instructional service that DCPS provides, we will closely monitor all student attendance and trends. Missing a significant amount of instructional time can and will hinder his/her academic achievement. If your student is absent or you anticipate an absence please contact the Attendance office via direct email [email protected].

We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health reasons or other circumstances. We also know that when students miss too much school—excused or unexcused—they can fall behind academically. Students are expected to complete all missed assignments regardless of excused or unexcused absences.
